Jalandhara Bandh in Pranayama

The next step in pranayama is to learn 3 types of bandhas. Bandh means 'to tie', to lock, or to prevent. The first type of Bandha is Jalandhara Bandh. Sit straight in Padmasana or ssukhasana. Breathe the air in keeping your palms on your knees. Lower your neck a little in front so that your chin touches the pit in your neck.Concentrate your eye-sight between your brows. your chest will project forward in this posture. This bandha keeps all the nerves of the neck togethar. This bandha may be performed while performing various types of pranayamas, which shall be explained by me in my subsequent posts.

There are many benefits of this Bandha. Your voice becomes pleasant and charming. Due to the constrction of the neck, Ida and Pingala Nadis also close themselves, directing your prana energy to Sushumna Nadi, the seat of Kundalini. All the diseases of neck and throat are cured by this Bandh. It is highly beneficial in the ailments like Thyroid, Tonsils etc. This Bandh also purifies and awakens Vishuddhi chakra. Such a simple exercise gives you tremendous benefits and you will find your whole attitude being changed to positive from negative.

KapalBhati Pranayama

This is the pranayama that is called the king of all pranayamas. Sit in a yogic pose with your eyes closed. Concentrate on your breathing as it passes through your body upto the lungs and going out in a return passage. In Kapalbhati, inhalation is to be done with normal usual force but the act of exhalation is to be done forcefully with the maximum force that is available with you. While doing this, the abdominal area has to go inward with a force, while exhaling. Also keep on thinking that while exhaling, all the impurities of your body and mind are thrown out and they are getting purified with the fresh air. The impurities of the mind can be like anger, greed, self ego etc. Similarly, while breathing in, think that you are taking all positive elements inside your body and mind like love, sympathy, and detachment from the physical world etc. Do this pranayama for around 10 to 15 minutes daily and I am sure you will remain fit and healthy all through your remaining life. If you feel tired in between, rest for couple of long and slow breathes and restart again. Initially, you may feel a little pain in the back or abdomen. But this will go away within a few days only.

Almost all the diseases like diabetes, obesity, acidity, constipation, depression, high blood pressure, kidney diseases are cured effectively by this pranayama. Even blockages of the arteries of heart are also getting removed. Peace and stability of the mind is secured. Your whole attitude changes to positive. All the chakras of the body are purified and are filled with new cosmic positive energy. This may look unbelivable to some, but I have myself cured many people from such diseases with the help of this pranayama. The main aspect is to have faith and confidence in this breathing exercise. I would sincerely urge you all to start this pranayama and take all the benefits stated within around 4/5 days only.

Bhastrika Pranayama

The first pranayama to be performed every morning is Bhastrika. Sit comfortably in a yogic posture in lotus pose, keeping your both the hnds on each knee with your eyes closed. Breathe in through both the nostrils forcefully, till your lungs are completly full with air. Make sure that your abdominal area do not swell while breathing in. You have to fill air in the chest area only. Then, breathe out forcefully through both the nostrils, again making sure that your abdominal area do not come up. One inhaling and one exhaling makes one cycle of this pranayama complete. This pranayam is to be performed for about 2 to 3 minutes daily. If you feel tired inbetween, please relax yourself by taking deep and slow breaths. If you are suffering from severe cough, or sinus and both of your nostrils are not open, repeat the respiration process only through the blocked nostril, keeping the other nostril closed. You will find that your blockage of the nostril will go away after around 10 respiration cycles through it. once this is done, start regular Bhastrika pranayama. This pranayama can be performed in three speeds, namely slow, medium, and fast. Start initially slowly for around one week and then, gradually increase your speed. Do not make haste in this matter. While doing this pranayama, keep thinking that the cosmic positive energy of the universe is entering inside you with every inhalation and you have become an integral part of that energy. Such positive thoughts will help you tremendously. Chanting of any religious mantra of AUM can also be continued to achieve full concentration.

This pranayama is extremely effective and cures diseases like cold, cough, allergy, asthma, thyroid, tonsils, respiratory system disorders, and headaches of all types including migrain. The lungs become stronger, making purification of blood more effective. It calms the mind and helps in upward journey of prana towards your brain. you shall start experiencing benefits yourself within a week of starting this pranayama. The persons suffering from acute hyper-tension (high blood pressure) must do this pranayam at a slow speed only. Also, reduce the timing for this pranayama during summer season.

Once this pranayama is done for around 2 to 3 minutes, it is now time to move to next type of pranayama. Please keep on visiting this spot by following the link www.yogaandpranayama.blogspot.com and start doing these exercises. I guarantee you full, healthy life to all of you in return.

Breathing Mindfully

The first and foremost step to start pranayama exercise is to clean your mind of all the thoughts that keep on coming diverting you from the concentration you need. This is to be done by this mindful breathing technique. sit in lotus pose with both your eyes closed and hands resting on your knees. Start taking slow and deep breathes watching the fresh, pure, and cool air going inside of your lungs. Feel your entire respiratory system getting purified. Slowly start exhaling the air and concentrate on the movement of air till it goes out of nose. Feel the temprature difference between the ingoing and outgoing air. Outgoing air will be slightly warm. Continue such slow and deep breathing. Feel your mind getting empty from all types of thoughts. If thoughts keep on coming, allow those thoughts and imagine that you are cleaning your mind with the broom. Keep on imagining this and you will observe your mind getting empty without any thoughts. This may take around six to seven days initially. However, keep on doing this for around 4 to 5 minutes daily and you will be able to keep your mind totally calm, empty and composed without any thoughts. It will be a good idea to chant any religious mantra that will help you keeping your mind free of all thoughts. Practice this mindful breathing technique daily without any interruption.

This type mindful breathing shall also help you to get rid of all your mental stress and you will feel new energy coming inside your body and mind. Yogic breathing

Our breathing is a direct indication of our health. If we breathe shallow and irregular, our health will also be irregular and many diseases will keep on attacking us. Pranayama makes our mind free from all impurities like ignorance, various mental blocks and mental depression. Yogasanas remove the disabilities and physical disorders of our body. Pranayama helps us in a greater proportions than the yogasans, influncing our mind and body both, symultaneously. It is the basic step to achieve systematic respiration that makes our lungs, heart, brain, and all other vital organs stronger. We know that the air we breathe in fills our lungs, spreads throughout the body, providing the vital element of Oxygen. The exhaling removes all the impurities of blood and the body in the gaseous form. So, if we breathe regularly and efficently, our entire body will become pure due to more oxygen content in the blood. Most of us breathe shallow and faster. This type of breathing brings hardly 30% of our lungs in action, keeping other vital 70% out of use. We must aim at using our full lungs capacity by proper breathing.

We human beings breathe at an average rate of 15 numbers per minute. Do you know that the tortoise, having breathing rate of 5 numbers per minute has a life span of 400 years? Our total number of breathes in the whole life are predetermined by the god that we cannot change. But, we can certainly reduce our breathing rate that will surely give us longer and healthy life. Always breathe deep and slow, enjoying the feel of fresh and pure air you take in. Simillarly, exhale very slowly, feeling the temprature difference between the inhaling and exhaling. Keep thinking in your mind that all the impurities are getting removed from your body. Ensure your chest expanding while inhaling and contracting while exhaling. Make sure that your abdominal portion does not expand while breathing in. There is no organ situated in the abdominal area that can absorb Oxygen. So, air is not required to go beloe the diaphragm. Cultivate this habit of slow and deep breathing all through the day. You shall observe your breathing rate going down slowly and shall be around 8 to10 numbers per minute within couple of weeks. The constant practice of deep breathing and meditation can further reduce your rate of breathing to even 4 numbers per minute. This slow rate shall present you with long and healthy life.

This type of yogic breathing shall help you in curing your blood pressure, diabetes, depression, headaches, and anger management.
